On Nov 9th 2018,a small group of men and women were able to save Paradise Cove from the Woosley Fire, at the time the biggest natural disaster in LA County history, with less than a 1000ft of old fire hose. Once the main fire was out and small spot fires dwindling the supplies by boat started to arrive we spent the next 3 days unloading boats and sending supplies to places as needed. Within weeks of returning home P. Cove residents begin to prepare for the next natural disaster. We established a emergency fund and through generous donations from residents raised enough money to accomplish Phase One. Phase One included all the fire boxes you see around the Cove that are filled with miles of fire hose, nozzles, fittings, etc. Also Steve purchased the fire container you see in the compound that has many other necessary items such as first aid, tools, PPE's etc. Now we've moved on to Phase Two. Phase Two is more important than Phase One because it’s going under the assumption that our water pressure is non-existent. Emails and flyers are being sent out describing what we need to avoid not having water. Phase Two also includes the establishment of the Paradise Cove Fire Brigade! The brigade already has close to 40 members! These 40 are the Critical Incident Response Team. It is comprised of men and women who stayed and fought the last fire so courageously and are willing to stay through the next disaster. If you think you'd like to be part of this team place contact me and I'll run you through the expectations and training. We encourage everyone to think safety first! Evacuating is highly encouraged and no one should be ashamed of leaving! That being said we need more people to be part of the Pre-Fire and Post Fire actions, it's just as important! There are many things we can start doin ASAP to make P.Cove more fire safe. Just an example yesterday my dad and I walked through the compound and it’s a tinder box! We need a hand full of people to take a few hours and clean up all flammable items. That's just one thing we can do as a Fire Brigade to be pro active. And as during Woosley P. Cove will be the destination for boats to drop off supplies during any natural disaster, its the best location in Malibu for this. So if you like to be part of the post disaster team that coordinates these type of thing join The Paradise Cove Fire Brigade! As always, I encourage people to share their ideas, concerns and knowledge with us. The more people involved the more solid are community will become! So please donate and participate!
